Raonic vs Monfils ATP Halle Trading

monfils vs raonic atp halle trade

Gael Monfils vs Milos Raonic ATP Halle trade.

I resumed trading today after almost two weeks of absence. To my disappointment I couldn’t find time to trade the French Open. Managed to lay and back a single match, the one that is featured in the previous post on this blog. As you might know I am not a full-time trader yet, so I do have to earn my living from other activities until I feel prepared to go full-time tennis trading. Monfils seems to be the player of the moment for my trading results. He brought me almost $100 profit at Roland Garros and helped me to cash in another $25 today during his encounter with Canadian Milos Raonic.

The Frenchman started as underdog his opening Round match at ATP Halle. Although he is on the ascending curve of his tennis shape, I personally couldn’t call the winner of the encounter before the start. Especially with the 22-year-old Milos Raonic waiting eagerly to send some aces on Halle’s grass courts after losing in the 3rd Round of the French Open to Kevin Anderson. Raonic, seeded No. 5, at the 2013 edition of the Gerry Weber Open had odds of 1.50 at the start of the match.

I followed this encounter right from the start. Raonic served first and both players had easy opening service games. However, in the 3rd game of the match at 15-15 there was a very long and disputed rally, finished by Monfils with a successful volley. It was obvious that Raonic would not have time to fully catch his breath and I was almost sure that he won’t make the 1st service. So I decided first to scalp it. I entered the market and layed the Canadian. Things went as planned but I did not trade out completely feeling that Monfils had the momentum. And he had it. Gael won the next point to send the score to 15-40 and the back odds for Raonic drifted as high as 1.84. Here I fully closed my initial trade and opened a second one. Sensing that Raonic will finally manage to send a strong serve, so I backed him this time. He did it and at 30-40 odds bounced back to 1.75. I closed the position again and hedged for a profit of $25. You can check both entry and exit points in the Price/Volume graph that I embedded in the nearby image.

I was planning to trade again during the 2nd set after seeing how things unfold at the start. I was anticipating that they will hold serve at least up to 3-3 or 4-4. But Monfils broke again in the opening game of the 2nd set and the match was pretty much over from my point of view. Gael won the encounter 6-4 6-2 and looks and all spectacular tennis fans are glad that he is back in shape!
